The Ghostlight Sessions – Srutháin – Earagail Arts Festival 2020

The Ghostlight Sessions: Joshua Burnside & Kate O’Callaghan
Experimental folk artist Joshua Burnside deftly blends alt-folk and elements of Irish folk tradition with South American rhythms and Eastern European influences whilst introducing synthetic and found-sounds, synths loops and crunching beats.
He released his debut album ‘Ephrata’ two years ago via Quiet Arch Records. A mix of Irish traditional, European folk and Americana, it earned Joshua the ‘Best Album’ award at the Northern Irish Music Prize.
Currently spending time in the studio using post-punk and electronic recording methods to push the boundaries of his beloved folk music, Joshua’s second studio album is set for release later in 2020.
Inishowen-based Kate O’Callaghan is a hugely-respected presence on the Donegal music scene.
Her beautifully evocative melodies and intelligent considered lyrics run the full range of emotions from the sublime to the cathartic creating a wondrously skewed, refracted version of folk that is haunting, poignant and uplifting.
To-date, Kate has written and recorded two albums and an EP and toured Ireland, UK, Germany and the US. Kate is currently working on the second phase of a historically-themed music project entitled ‘Songs from A Witness Statement’ based on the first-hand testimony of her great grand-aunt’s involvement in the 1916 Rising and Irish War of Independence.

Support to Dean Maywood EP Launch

I will be supporting Dean Maywood at the Balor Arts Centre on May 17th with Seamus Devenny.

Dean will be launching his debut EP with The Dog River Band – Darren Doherty on guitars, Zara Montgomery on keys, Cormac Friel on drums and Darren Carr on bass. They will be joined by Goats Don’t Shave guitarist Patsy Gallagher and a special guest appearance by Brendan Quinn.
Donegal Songwriter Michael Gillespie will also provide a support slot on the night.

Support to Jack L @ the Balor Arts Centre

I’m delighted to be invited back to the Balor Arts Centre to open for Jack Lukeman on the 12th Jan 2019. I had the pleasure of supporting Jack a few years ago in the wonderful Backroom at McGrory’s of Culdaff and I’m really looking forward to meeting him again. A lovely gentleman as well as a superb artist.
Tickets can be booked via the Balor’s website here.

Autumn Tour UK/IRL 2014

A busy Autumn ahead with my first tour of Scotland and England – including the Perthshire Amber Festival, gigs in Edinburgh (incl. Edinburgh Folk Club) and also a visit to the Carlisle Folk & Blues Club in Cumbria to support the fabulous Lucy Ward and her band on Halloween night (I wonder should I dress up as a witch, or would that give a bad first impression? hmm).

In addition, I’m delighted to be included on another Roadworks Tours series – this time opening for Carrie Rodriguez (Austin, TX) at The Workman’s Club, Dublin and the Balor Arts Centre, Donegal.

Other gigs include hosting The Lark & The Robin monthly series at McGrory’s, Culdaff. November’s guests will be two critically acclaimed singer/songwriters from Northern Ireland – Ciaran Lavery and Matt McGinn. Ciaran recently launched his 2nd EP ‘Kosher’ to great success and Matt is just about to release his next album ‘Latter Day Sinner’.

Ciaran Lavery will also be joining myself and Seamus Devenny at McDaid’s Winebar, Ramelton on the 14th November.

See all dates here.

Irish Spring Tour 2014

Looking forward to getting out on the road this March for my Irish Spring Tour. Delighted to be joining Roadworks Tours once again, this time supporting longtime friend and wonderful singer/songwriter/musician from the US called Peter Mulvey. Peter is launching his new album Silver Ladder and we will be enjoying a short jaunt around the country – from Wexford to Kildare, Donegal to Belfast, Dublin and beyond. Check out the dates below. After saying farewell to Peter (as he sets off for the UK), I’ll be finishing up my tour at The Acoustic Yard Sessions in Matt Molloy’s, Westport.
